Giant Toddler Shot on Dec 12, 2019 with a SONY NEX-5N | ƒ/3.5 | 1/25 | 16mm | ISO3200 |
A night shot of the Rainier Square Tower in downtown Seattle. With 58 floors, this under-construction building already towers over every other building in the vicinity. In fact, I took this picture from the 39th floor of my office building, and I still need to crane my neck up a little bit to get the full view of this building! Not surprising considering that this is the 2nd tallest building in Seattle (that distinction belongs to the 76-story Columbia Center).
A a kid growing up in Coimbatore, my definition of an "average tall building" was anything that exceeded 8 floors. Every since, I have had to update my "definition" as and when I encounter newer, taller buildings in real life (and run into some interesting experiences too). Right now, that number is about 35-40 floors at present. Given the rapid rate of advancements that we are going through, I wonder what that number would in another 50 years? And then, how will this landscape look like? Will this giant toddler look like a dwarf? Will we preserve shorter buildings as "antiques", like a museum piece? Wish we had a time machine to take a peek through this very window 50 years down the line!
